Monthly discussion: #Reformasidikorupsi

Thousands of students in at least nine cities across Indonesia took to the streets demanding an end to what they claimed were ongoing attempts to roll back two decades of political reform in the country. In response to this situation, our monthly discussion will talk about the issues surrounding the student and civil society movements that are demanding the government and legislators drop various controversial bills. In this discussion, Adnan Topan Husodo from Indonesia Corruption Watch will talk on the issues surrounding the unpopular, newly passed KPK Law and the efforts to weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) since its establishment, Rafiqa Qurrata A’yun will talk about student protests and civil society movements against the draconian passages in the amendment to the Criminal Code (KUHP), and Dr Dave McRae will discuss the forms, drivers, and political impacts of negative campaigning in the 2019 Indonesian elections, including the implications for Indonesia’s shifting political culture. Annisa Sabrina Hartoto will be moderating the discussion.
