Eksil (2022) is an award-winning documentary movie about ten Indonesian exiles who have been living in Europe for the past 60 years. They were students under the then-Indonesian civil service bond (Indonesian: Mahasiswa Ikatan Dinas, MAHID), studying abroad when Sukarno was replaced by Suharto in 1965-1966 and their passports were revoked by Suharto’s government.
The screening was followed by a Q&A with director Lola Amaria and Emeritus Professor Ariel Heryanto.
This event was hosted by the Indonesia Forum, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts & Music, and the Australia Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA).

Just saw the remarkable documentary Eksil which tells the story of Indonesians abroad who were exiled after the 1965 genocide of leftists. Lots of tears in the audience here in Melbourne.
